I have used AI in the past to assist me. Be it asking questions on
syntax, asking for complex commands, translating and proofreading, or
using it to generate CSS (for this website). I have not once
vibe-coded a project, and every line I got from the AI was vetted by
me to make sure that it is right. If I didn't understand something, I
didn't use it.
Nowadays however, AI is much more political than
it was. The
enshittification of the internet
is going to be visible in this branch as well, but now the stakes are
much higher. AI is creeping into every hole of every commercial
program and is taking the world over. Almost everyone uses it, and yet
almost no one knows how it works. This is dangerous and irresponsible
and leads to people not only losing their livelihood, but also losing
their ability to think freely.
Now the technocrats want to make us outsource our brains, and make
thinking subscription based, censored and steered,
and I can't stand for that.
I hereby pledge that from this moment on, I will not use AI to do
anything on my computer, be it generation of commands, asking for
tips, or even looking at my code.
AI is also terrible for the environment, and
is being used in warfare to kill people, so if you don't care about any of the politics, maybe that could be
an incentive for you.
We have to be OK with making mistakes and settling with less; we
have to be ok with being bored, and we have to still stay curious
for that is what makes us uniquely human.
